Any company that does not have a licence to operate as a butcher's shop and wants to work in this field.
To obtain the licence, one person within the company must prove professional competence as a butcher. The professional responsible for this professional capacity can be the company owner or a third party (self-employed or employee) with a real link to the company.
The application can be made on behalf of a company, as an individual or as a legal entity (company).
To obtain the licence, the responsible professional must prove their skills as a butcher (professional competence).
How?
- With a diploma or certificate;
- With 3 years' full-time or 4 years' part-time professional experience.
With a butcher's licence, you can run a butcher's shop.
As soon as you receive your licence, send a certified copy to your company counter and continue with the administrative formalities to launch your business.

Processing your application
If your file is incomplete, we will send you a letter asking you to complete it.
If your application is complete, you will receive your butcher's licence.
Once your file is complete, you will receive your licence within two weeks.
- If you are applying on behalf of a company: a photocopy of the articles of association published in the Belgian Official Gazette;
- A photocopy of the identity card of the responsible professional, and if it is not the same person, that of the company director;
- Proof of the professional capacity of the responsible professional as a butcher:
- either a photocopy of their diploma;
- or official documents proving 3 years' full-time or 4 years' part-time professional experience:
- as a self-employed worker: a certificate from the social insurance fund for self-employed workers;
- as an employee: your individual accounts or first and last payslips;
- or a copy of a previously obtained licence if the responsible professional has already proven their professional competence;
- the original of the company's previous licence (if any) or a sworn statement in the event of loss or theft;
- the original licence of the transferor (in the event of a takeover).
If an approved Business Counter refuses to register or modify your company in the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises, you can contest this decision by sending an appeal to the Conseil d'Établissement.
This appeal must be sent by registered post within 30 days of receipt of the refusal decision. The letter must include the decision of the Business Counter as well as any additional documents the applicant deems relevant to the Conseil d'Établissement's examination of the application.
