The concessionary scheme and burial options outside this scheme

Summary

A burial plot concession is a contract that entitles one or more beneficiaries to be buried in the plot and to remain there until the concession expires.

It is a location in the cemetery for which one buys the right to its use (rather than the land itself).

For burial, the concession constitutes a tomb or a grave. For cremation, it constitutes a place in a columbarium or a vault.

In detail

Procedure

A concession may relate to:

  • 1st a plot of land;
  • 2nd a plot with a burial chamber in which there is a vault;
  • 3rd an existing burial plot for which the concession has expired or for which a state of abandonment has been declared;
  • 4th a columbarium cell.

Concessions are non-transferable, form a single whole and are divisible.

It is impossible to change the status of a non-concessioned plot to a concession.

Coût

The fee fixed by the municipalities for the award of a concession varies from one municipality to another. For more details on the cost, please contact the competent municipality.

Unless a concession is granted, burial, scattering of ashes and placement in a columbarium is free of charge for destitute persons, persons registered in the Population Register, in the Register of Foreign Nationals or on the municipal waiting list.

Délais

Whether a burial or cremation is chosen, a burial plot without concession is maintained for at least 5 years.

At the end of the five years plus one year of displaying a relevant notice, the location without concession will be vacated.
