Summary

If you can no longer live alone and home help is no longer sufficient, consider moving into a nursing home or a rest and care home.

These establishments offer a safe and stable environment, as well as appropriate medical supervision.

  • Rest homes (MR) are collective and permanent residences for people aged 70 or over, except in exceptional circumstances.
  • Rest and care homes (MRS) provide permanent care for people who require heavy care, services and assistance with daily living. The people welcomed are aged 70 and over (except in exceptional circumstances) and highly dependent. This dependency is most often the result of a long-term illness or a significant loss of autonomy.

Key points

  • Living in a rest home or nursing home is subject to charges. The amounts vary depending on the establishment and the care provided to the person.
