Obtaining a certificate (basic level) for the carriage of dangerous goods by inland waterways (ADN)

Summary

In order to carry dangerous goods, a vessel must have a crew member on board who holds a certificate for the carriage of dangerous goods (basic level). 

If such carriage involves chemical and/or gaseous products, there must be a crew member who holds a certificate for the carriage of dangerous goods (chemical and/or gaseous products). 

The list of dangerous goods is available for consultation in Part 3 of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (ADN).

The certificate is valid for 5 years. 

 

 

 

 

In detail

Conditions

1. Be at least 18 years old; and 

2. Have successfully completed a training course on the carriage of dangerous goods (basic level), provided by one of the following training centres: 

    - Social Service for Inland Navigation and Travellers in Vivegnis; 

    - BLM in Belsele; 

    - DGT in Zelzate; 

    - Transafe BVBA in Assenede; and 

3. Have passed an examination no later than 6 months after successfully completing the training course on the carriage of dangerous goods (basic level).

 

The subjects covered in the examination are listed in points 8.2.2.3.1., 8.2.2.3.2. and 8.2.2.3.3. of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (ADN).

Procedure

1. Print out and complete the application form; 

2. Pay the fee: see application form; 

3. Send the application form and the following documents to the navigation office: 

   - a photocopy of your valid identity card or passport; 

   - a recent identity photograph; 

   - a certificate showing successful completion of the training course on the carriage of dangerous goods (basic level).
