Becoming a BEP certifier of residential buildings

Summary

How do you become an BEP (building energy performance) certifier of existing residential buildings in the Walloon Region?

To do this, accreditation must be obtained from Wallonia Public Service (WPS) Energy’s Sustainable Buildings Directorate (Direction des bâtiments durables), located at

The Order of the Walloon Government of 15 May 2014 regulates the certification of existing residential units and the accreditation of the various parties involved: BEP certifiers and training centres.

In order to obtain their accreditation, candidate certifiers must complete training and pass an examination (consisting of oral and written tests), which are organised by approved training centres.

They submit an application for accreditation to the administration using the form.

  2. not have been subject, within the three years prior to submitting an application for accreditation, to a decision to withdraw accreditation;
  3. have completed the training and passed the examination.

A legal entity may also be accredited as an BEP certifier of existing residential buildings if it has, among its staff or collaborators, at least one accredited BEP certifier of existing residential buildings bound to the entity by an agreement.

Training courses are organised by approved training centres and are held throughout the Walloon Region.

The dates and locations of the training courses are specified and listed here.

Within 10 days of receiving the form, the administration will send the applicant an acknowledgement of receipt. After reviewing the application, the administration will authorise the candidate to register for the training course and examination organised by an approved training centre. The administration will set out the practical arrangements for organising the training and, where applicable, the examinations.

At the end of the training and examination and after the administration has received the report on the training and examination session from the approved training centre, the Minister will accredit the candidates who have taken the training and passed the examination.
