Wallonia, land of history, has managed to preserve its many chateaus, abbeys and historic towns. Come and see some places endowed with quite exceptional architecture. Let us guide you through our colourful region. Soak in the unique atmosphere of our towns: rub the monkey's head on the Grand'Place in Mons, climb up the steps of the Namur Citadel or savour an Orval in the abbey where it's brewed by the local monks. Over the centuries, this region has built up a truly varied military, religious, industrial and artistic heritage. A few military sites have withstood the ravages of time and now stand as showcases of our ancestors' know-how. Many religious masterpieces, created by the faith of men of former times, can still be seen across our region. From massive abbeys such as Villers-la-Ville to small village churches, you'll discover some real jewels of Romanesque and Gothic art. Or why not take the time to admire the many sites that feature impressive vestiges of the industrial era, not forgetting the many buildings in our five provinces that feature beautiful Art Nouveau decor! Come and discover Wallonia and its rich history, the resplendent fortified castle of Bouillon dating from feudal times, the beautiful palace of the Prince-Bishops of Liège or the impressive chateau of Lavaux-Ste-Anne. You can also visit places like Blégny and travel back through time and see what life was like in a mining town. But Wallonia is also a growing and modern region. See for yourself by visiting the modern city of Louvain-la-Neuve, or gape in wonder at the barge lift in Strépy-Thieu, a monumental architectural construction. You will surely agree that our region is building for the future and will continue to produce chef d'oeuvres… Mise à jour : 22/01/2007 | Mon Espace Personnel |
