Walloon cuisine

Imprimer

Wallonia, a land of fine cuisine, produces some excelling food and a veritable cornucopia of original dishes, with over 600 producers specializing in the local products of Wallonia!

When you mention Walloon cuisine, most people will immediately think of beer, chocolate and cheese. Our breweries offer a rich variety of Trappist beers (Chimay, Rochefort and Orval), abbey beers and a number of regional beers. You can also try our spirits such as genever (gin), pékèt, brandy and Maitrank. And why not sample our famous cheeses, which range from strong products like Herve to the mildest sheep's cheese, not forgetting our Trappist and abbey cheeses. If you are a meat lover, our livestock farms produce top-quality meat such as the famous Blanc Bleu. You can also find a range of cold meat specialities (charcuterie), along with Ardenne ham, black and white pudding and sausages of all kinds.

When you visit our region, you'll notice that each town is proud to tell you the recipes for their specialities: Nivelles offers its tarte al d'jote, in Mons try the escavèche, and if you visit Tournai you'll see lapin du lundi parjuré on the menu and oie à l'instar de Visé (Visé goose). You'll find it difficult to choose from all the different desserts, pastries and biscuits in Wallonia: cramique, waffles, marzipan, macaroon, rice tart, rhubarb tart, pralines… This is a food lovers' paradise.
